City of Roanoke
“The Star City continues to see signs of positive economic
growth. A new coffee house called Sweet Donkey plans to open in February and a
bakery plans to relocate downtown in the near future. Roanoke economic
development leaders said they have seen an increase in interest for retail
spaces downtown.
David Meyers has seen a lot of changes over the years. He
owns Milan Tobacconist which opened downtown more an 100 years ago. Meyers said
he has watched investors come and go over the past decade. ‘Downtown growth
seemed stagnant for a while and then when the real estate market went crazy a
lot of people where buying old buildings and converting them into condos’ said
Meyers. Meyers said new developments and growth have provided a boost to local
businesses.”
