Page County
“The September Colorado flash floods that ravaged the
mountainous terrain near Boulder, following a massive downpour, killed seven
and destroyed 1,500 homes. About 6.8 inches of rain fell over the city in a
24-hour period, according to the National Weather Service, blowing out dams by
the torrential rain.
A recent map study conducted by FEMA, exclusively for
Page County, provides the county with a direct path to the possible danger
zones for future developments following a five-inch rain over a 24-hour period.
The Page County Landslide Hazard Mapping Project was conducted by Anne Witt,
Geologist Specialist for the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME).
The project was a 1-year, FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant
awarded to the DMME – a Division of Geology and Mineral Resources (DGMR)
managed by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). The total
grant amount from VDEM was $111,146.”
