Artisan Trail gets donation; would link businesses

Accomack County
“An artisan trail for the Eastern Shore of Virginia will likely be created after an anonymous donor gave $10,000 of the $15,000 needed to get started. The Artisans’ Center of Virginia is the group that would help develop and market the trail, which a representative said would help local agricultural and artisan businesses. ‘Our program is all about strengthening communities,’ said Sherri Smith, exexcutive director of the center.

Smith asked for and received the support of the Accomack County Board of Supervisors to go forward, and said she will ask the Northampton County board for similar support. She said the group is not asking local governments for funding. Among the first steps in an initial 10- to 14-month development process for the trail is to set up a 10-14 member management team of local stateholders. Trail sites would include artisan studios, galleries, museums and the like, as well as supporting sites like unique lodgings and restaurants.”
