King School of Medicine gets extension of support

City of Abingdon
“The proposed allopathic medical school in Abingdon received an extension of support and a few more directives from the Virginia Tobacco Commission’s Southwest Economic Development Committee, which heard an update on the project Monday.

‘The way the meeting went today signifies progress has been made,’ said Tariq Zaidi, president and chief operating officer of the King School of Medicine, which its directors have decided to call the Southwest Virginia School of Medicine, said after the meeting.

State Sen. Bill Carrico, R-Independence, made a motion to extend the Tobacco Commission’s support of the project on the condition that school officials present a business plan and financial report at the commission’s next meeting in May.”
